Working on the creation of the artificial language Lingwe Uniwersala (translated from Esperanto as «universal language»), Ludwig Zamenhof pursued the lofty goal of creating a universal language environment, a common code of communication. In his utopia, as a result of the spread of Esperanto, «education, ideals, beliefs and goals would be common, and all peoples would be united in a single brotherhood». The project of the state of Amikejo, where Esperanto was to be the official language, remained unrealised.
The art project Lingwe Uniwersala is a kind of local artistic prototype of Amikejo, inheriting the paradigm of unity. Artist, critic, curator — three spheres of activity in the art world, the boundaries between which are becoming increasingly difficult to define in practice. Each participant of the project enters into a common dialogue, the task of which is to create a new language of art communication, integrating the category of the unique into the category of the universal. The artistic dialogue between specialists becomes full-fledged with the appearance of the viewer, who acts as a recipient of the result of their cooperation and gradually becomes a co-author himself.
The Sevkabel factory space is an appropriate platform to juxtapose different artistic mediums, exhibiting works created especially for the Lingwe Uniwersala exhibition. The experience participating in significant international exhibitions, festivals and biennales gives each of the project participants a clear sense of the differences in tastes, methods, opinions and assessments of the contemporary Art Industry. Each of them formulates their own creative statement, but with the common goal of realising the idea of a universal language of art.
